UBP Group Deputy Chairman Ahmet Savaşan said that December 21-25, 1963 was an important turning point in the Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for existence.
National Unity Party (UBP) Group Deputy Chairman and Nicosia District Chairman Ahmet Savaşan attended the ceremonies commemorating Kaymaklı Martyrs and Hüseyin Ruso.
In his message, Ahmet Savaşan pointed out that the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people for existence started on December 21, 1963, and pointed out that if the necessary resistance was not put forward or could not be put forward in the week starting with December 21, the chance of this resistance to continue would disappear and thus the island of Cyprus would be completely under Greek Cypriot domination.
Stating that the heroic resistance put forward in the days of the difficult struggle that started on December 21 showed the world that the Turkish Cypriots are a people to be respected, Savaşan stated that this resistance also paved the way to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus for the Turkish Cypriot People.
“This difficult path was walked and overcome with the contributions of Turkish Cypriots from seven to seventy,” Savaşan said.
“Despite all these years that have passed, if a new agreement has not been reached on the island of Cyprus, it is not the Turkish Cypriot people who refused to surrender their ‘right to self-governance’ to the Greek Cypriot side by realizing this glorious resistance,” said Ahmet Savaşan, adding that “the Greek Cypriot side, which refuses to accept the success of the resistance of the Turkish Cypriot people, is responsible for the continuation of the conflict. As long as the Greek Cypriot side's intransigence continues, our struggle, which started on the night of December 21, will continue under new conditions, much stronger but with the same determination.”.
“IT IS OUR PRIMARY DUTY TO KEEP THE MEMORY OF RUSO ALIVE AND KEEP THE SPIRIT OF KAYMAKLI ALIVE”
Stating that the resistance of Küçük Kaymaklı and Martyr Hüseyin Ruso have a special place in the struggle for existence, Savaşan said at the end of his message, “It is our primary duty to keep Ruso's memory alive and keep the spirit of Kaymaklı alive. We are aware of this duty and we will do what is necessary today and tomorrow. With these feelings and thoughts, on December 21-25 National Struggle and Martyrs Week, I bow once again with respect to the heroism, self-sacrifice and conscious resistance of our people; I commemorate with mercy our martyrs who did not spare their lives for our existence, and I kiss the hands of our living veterans with gratitude and respect.”.
